Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here are some variations on the Whirlwind quilt that I designed with the Dolly Dresses 2 & 3 fabrics, the blue version was just published in McCall's Quilting magazine in the July / August issue.
I loved this collection so much that the variations just kept coming to me...
I have such a "thing" for sweet, girlie, retro designs...
But to be honest, most of the colorations from the 30's to the 60's, not so much...
So after collecting little dolly dresses and quiltie bits for over 25 years...I finally got up the courage to play with all of the snippets...re-working, re-coloring & refining all sorts of pretty things...My first collection with these bits was Dolly Dresses 1 which was introduced back in the Fall of 2008.
My biggest challenge in fabric to date has been getting into some sort of a groove with the colorists at the mills that I print with...
There's a lovely "color person" that I work with, he guys at the mill call him "The Master". He's put up with me for over 10 years...(The guys at the mill call me "Miss Picky") --LOL.
I've always loved blues, yellows & white together...especially when the blue has just a hint of purple in it...
Hope you'll be inspired to make your own quilt with some of the Dolly Dresses 2 & 3 fabrics, we had such a great response to this collection that we ordered lots of extra stock, so even if your local quilt shop doesn't have it today, they can still get over 90% of the fabrics from our stock at our warehouse.
More soon,
Holly.
